My Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my donation page in memory of my brother, Elton Horner.

On the 18th April 2026, (coincidentally what would have been Elton’s 54th birthday) I departed for Peru to trek to Machu Picchu.

This challenging trek along the Salkantay pass to Machu Picchu in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care was amazing!! 

I took on this epic challenge because in 2019, at just 47 years old, my brother Elton died from prostate cancer, which had spread into his bones. Elton was an inspiration to me. Even when he was fighting his own battle against cancer, he still found the time to support me with sage advice and plenty of silliness. I miss him every day. 

Dorothy House hospice looked after Elton for the last 11 days of his life. This amazing hospice focuses on the patients' quality of life, so they can live and die well. The nursing staff took care of Elton with compassion and kindness. In his short stay Elton made a big impact with his quick wit and daft sense of humour. In return, he is now remembered with much fondness. The staff at Dorothy House also gave me support in this really challenging time.

If you're able to, please make a donation to Dorothy House to honour Elton's memory. The cost of caring for one patient is £905 a day: this includes nurses, doctors, physiotherapy, complimentary therapies, accommodation, food and emotional support - which you can never put a price on.

In order to get fighting fit for the high altitude hiking in Peru, I am walking the South West Coast Path, all 630 miles from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset. You can see regular up-dates of my progress in the post below.
