About

I am taking on Trek Machu Picchu 2026 in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care and this is why....

My wonderful, caring and loving husband Adrian, was diagnosed with a brain tumour ( a Glioblastoma) in September 2024.

The day after we got back from a family adventure of a lifetime; interrailing around Europe with our two boys ( 8 and 11 years), Adrian went to A & E as he wasn't feeling right. He was admitted onto a ward that evening after CT and MRI scans showed a mass on his brain.

A brain biopsy the following week diagnosed the worst. He had a Glioblastoma; there was no cure!

We were told he might live 12 - 18 months with palliative treatment, at the time this seemed incomprehensible but nothing like the real story!

He started chemotherapy as a last resort to hold the disease back, but the tablets affected him badly and he spiralled emotionally and mentally.

Adrian started to deteriorate faster than I could ever imagine! His mobility was affected and he eventually couldn't walk in his last few days.

He lived for 2 months!

Dorothy House were there in our desperate hour of need and saved Adrian physically, emotionally and mentally. Adrian was an in- patient for a month on the ward before he slipped away peacefully on the morning of 1st November, with me right by his side.

Adrian felt so safe and cared for at Dorothy House and the staff are utterly amazing, so caring not just for Adrian but for ourselves. As a family we are accessing Grief support through them as this is just the beginning of our journey as a family of 3 and it's A LOT to navigate.

Hospice's are facing unprecedented demand and little Government funding. This is why I am raising money for Dorothy House, whilst carrying on the adventurous spirit, we've always had.

I'm nervous and apprehensive but know deep down that I can do this on my own. It's a great goal to focus on and I really need a focus right now. I'll be with other challenge trekkers too who are fundraising for  Dorothy House, so I'm with great company!

Your support will cover my costs to do this trip and also raise VITAL funds for Dorothy House.

I don't know how Adrian's time may have ended with out Dorothy House, I'm forever grateful and I believe everyone should be able to access this vital care when the time comes.
